GSDF Soldiers Test Radio and Satellite Communications

Soldiers pratice for real world disasters with amateur radio operators.

20 Oct 2022 - Staff

The Georgia State Defense Force (GSDF) worked with the Georgia Amateur Radio Emergency Service to test radio and satellite communications in the north Georgia mountains on September 24, 2022. See page 6 of the Amateur Radio Relay League Georgia Section newsletter for details.

GSDF annual training occurred at Volunteer Training Site Catoosa, Tunnel Hill, Ga., September 22-25, 2022.

This portion of the annual training demonstrated that GSDF can maintain mission-critical communications via email, internet, and radio under adverse conditions when deployed to support the people of the state of Georgia during urban and wilderness search and rescue missions, adverse weather events, like hurricanes and tornadoes, and other humanitarian relief efforts.

The GSDF is an all-volunteer military component of the Georgia Department of Defense, along with the Georgia Air National Guard and Georgia Army National Guard.
