Georgia State Defense Force
911th Support Command

History
In 2001, SUPCOM was established as Headquarters
Support Group at the direction of then-GaSDF Chief of Staff COL Michael
McGuinn. The IT Unit, commanded by (now) CPT James Clifton and later named
the IT Platoon, was its first functioning
subordinate unit.
In 2002, it was officially detached from GaSDF HQ and renamed Support Group.
The inaugural commander was COL Richard M. Lockert.
In late 2005, Support Group was declared to be a brigade-equivalent unit,
and by direction of GaSDF Commanding General BG McGuinn, Support Group was
renamed 911th Support Command in recognition of this status and in honor of
those who served and responded during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The first
commanding officer of Support Command was COL Noel Bambrough.
Also in 2006, SUPCOM’s authorized strength was raised to over 200, and it
was reorganized into three functional battalions and a headquarters command
group.
In 2008, the Command was re-organized into four functional detachments and an
HHC to better support customers, and to provide for a new tasking: operating
the Initial Entry Training (IET) School.
Today, under the command of MAJ Samuel Peng, SUPCOM is a vital unit of
the Georgia State Defense Force and is proud to support other GaSDF units,
the Georgia DOD and National Guard, and the citizens of the State when
called.
