Georgia State Defense Force - Chaplains Corps

CONTACT: Georgia State Defense Force Chaplain Corps

The GSDF Chaplains Corps has two essential elements, including our Chaplains (officers) and our Chaplain Assistants (enlisted) personnel. Since we operate in a UMT (Unit Ministry Team) format, this is essential.  Requirements to serve in either capacity are demanding. For chaplains (commissioned officers), these  include:

  • Ecclesiastical Endorsement from a Pentagon recognized entity

  • Ordination

  • A favorable Senior Chaplain interview

  • Three specific letters of recommendation

  • A valid Master of Divinity degree (or it's equal)

  • DD Form 214 (if prior federal service)

  • Three years experience in ministry

  • A favorable law enforcement check

  • Acceptance by Georgia Department of Defense

  • A written summation on WHY chaplaincy service is desired

For our Chaplain Assistants, they do NOT have to have Endorsement, ordination, years of service in ministry or the Master's degree. They must however, be able to meet the other demands, and they must be able to work in a UMT environment. Much of our training is done in UMT format, and ALL personnel are treated with great dignity and respect..challenged to DO "ministry to military."

After acceptance into the GSDF CHC, each officer must go through OBC (CHC), then AOC (CHC), then through Senior CHC training,. all of this is timeconsuming, to standard, and challenging. Enlisted personnel complete BNCOC, ANCOC and have continual training, particularly in the CTT areas.  ALL personnle must do five specific FEMA courses, in additinn to a myriad of "hands on training" exercies.

Our duties include: funerals, weddings, counseling, preaching, teaching, suicide prevention, family support and readiness, COPS (community outreach programs, Public Affairs, writing, military functions, support of state and federal military, and other duties as assigned.
